The following prizes and awards are open to students who achieve academic excellence in our discipline:
Top First Year Student Prize
This merit-based prize is awarded to the top first year student registered in Historical Studies.
Van Riebeeck Society Book Prize
Generously donated by the Van Riebeeck Society, this merit-based book prize is awarded to the top second year student registered in Historical Studies.
Van Tonder Prize
The Van Tonder Prize is a monetary prize awarded in recognition of the best under-graduate assigment submitted uring the academic year. As such, first, second and third year students are eligible to win this prize and it is an exciting incentive to work hard and produce excellent assignments.
ABSA Merit Bursary Award
This prestigious award, sponsored by ABSA, is presented to the top third year student who continues with Historical Studies Honours. The bursary is intended to assist the student with financing further study in History and it is a valuable incentive to continue with post-graduate study in our department.
