Greek and Latin Studies offer 4 subjects: Classical Culture, Ancient Greek, Latin and Modern Greek. Our discipline spans all aspects of Greek and Roman civilisation from approximately 1200 B.C.E. to the Fall of the Western Roman Empire in 476 C. E., and from the rise of the Byzantine Empire in the East to Modern Day Greece. Greek and Latin Studies comprise a number of disciplines such as history, literary criticism, anthropology, psychology, mythology, linguistics, philosophy, religion studies and art history (to name a few). Our aim is to introduce aspects of history, language, history of art and architecture, religion, and social anthropology in order to give the students as holistic a picture of the ancient world while studying some of the greatest works of world literature and those powerful myths that shape our understanding of the human condition today.

This major covers Anthropological, Sociological, and Psychoanalytical Theories of Myth interpretation; the foundation myths of Greek Culture and as well as their relevance, impact and function within Western Culture today; Classical Literature and Philosophy which have had an undeniable impact on the formation of Western literary genres, religious and philosophical thought as well as the influence of Greece and Rome on contemporary art, literature and film
Mordern Greek
Learn Modern Greek and get to know the culture, literature and history of contemporary Greece. You will not say “it is all Greek to me!” anymore.
Latin
Learning Latin will improve your understanding of English. It is also a help in learning foreign languages, since Italian, Spanish and French are directly descended from Latin and have many features in common with it. Learn about Roman history, art and literature and how these still influence Western civilisation today.
