UJ students win Loeries
The University of Johannesburg (UJ) Department of Graphic Designwalked away with laurels at this year’s Loerie Awards, winning gold, silver and bronze in various student categories.
The Loeries, South Africa’s premier advertising awards, recognise professional and student creative talent from Africa and the Middle East. The awards cover categories within television, radio and print and include areas such as brand communication, graphic design, architecture, direct marketing and digital media. The 2011 ceremony was hosted in Cape Town from 16 to 18 September.
UJ graduate Zelé Angelides won a Gold Loerie in the Publication Design category for her Kindle project, completed as part of her BTech Graphic Design degree. “Kindle was bound using traditional Chinese stab binding, reflecting the Chinese history of burning books in order to unify and eliminate opposition. Shortly after production, Kindle was turned to charcoal, in representation of the fate of future printed books,” said Zelé about her project.
