Late last year Heidelberg Graphic Systems Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd hosted a competition for 2nd year Graphic Design students to come up with a vehicle branding idea for one of the company’s new delivery vans.
The competition also entailed Heidelberg Graphics holding a presentation for the students and arranging a tour for them to one of its major clients, namely Masterpack Manufacturers (Pty) Ltd. As a result, the students were then able to understand the printing process better and also found out more on Heidelberg and its products.
According to Deirdre Pretorius, Head of Graphic Design at University of Johannesburg (UJ), the students’ knowledge of production processes improved immensely from the project and they all enjoyed the tour. This new passion for printing can be seen in the winning design of the truck created by Graphic Design student, Max Seifert.
Max chose, as the main feature of his design, the Heidelberg Speedmaster CX 102 - a press that combines the innovative solutions resulting in much shorter make-ready times and top production speeds of 16, 500 sheets per hour. Coincidently, Max’s grandfather, who lived in Germany once, also owned a Heidelberg press. So, winning this competition meant a lot to him.
