Programme content
The programme is geared towards an in-depth consolidation of the practical, technical and theoretical skills of Fine Art practice.
As a requirement, students work towards their first professional one-person or group exhibition, which forms part of their final evaluation. This process is done in close collaboration with the staff from the Department, who will support, and advise the student through the course.
During the BTech year, students have opportunities to focus on other areas of art that could not be pursued in the National Diploma. During the experiential workplace learning module, students will, as part of their practical and theoretical studies, work in one of the following industry-related environments: Arts and Culture Education and Training, Curatorial Management, Arts Project Management, Ford Foundation / APS Screen Print unit and Phumani Papers: Papermaking and Paper Product Design.
Duration
The programme is offered for one year full-time and two years part-time.

The expertise obtained in Visual art equips students with diverse skills that can also be applied in many areas of the visual arts industries: professional artist, art education, art gallery and curator management, art consultant, art entrepreneur, arts project management, art researcher, art writer / critic, print studio management, papermaking and paper product design, art critic, art journalist, theatre design, advertising, aspects of television production, digital and multimedia, animation and film.

Fees
Tuition Fees for per year: R19 355 (2012 Fees).
All fees mentioned here are approximations. Fees tend to increase between 10% and 12% yearly.
Admission requirements
A National Diploma: Fine Art or an equivalent qualification of an equal standard, approved by the Department Selection Committee with a minimum mark of 60% for all practical and theoretical subjects.
Selection
Selection is based on a letter of application, the evaluation of a portfolio of practical work and an interview if necessary.
