A Team of Researchers from Africa, Asia, Europe, and Middle East is requesting your participation in an ‘International Study” that is examining the causes, costs and consequences of rework in construction and engineering projects. The study will compare and determine what the costs and causes of rework. However, the instrument that is being used can’t determine latent conditions contributing to rework – this will need to be undertaken by interview. An instrument had been developed to undertake this task. We will conduct interviews in Singapore, Korea, Hong Kong, UK etc to supplement the work. Rework is an unknown, and a non-value adding activity that hinders productivity, performance and profitability. The Universities participating in this international research project include: Curtin University (Australia), University of New South Wales (Australia), Bond University (Australia), Yonsei University (South Korea), Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile (Chile), Birmingham City University (UK), East Carolina University (USA), Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (Spain), City University (Hong Kong), Purdue University (USA), University of Johannesburg (South Africa), Nangyang Technological University (Singapore), Harbin Institute of Technology (China), University of Twente (Netherlands) and Indian Institute of Technology (India). May you please assist the researchers in undertaking the survey through the web address that appears below. It will take a maximum of 20 minutes of your time. For further information I can be contacted at the following email address: Professor Wellington Didibhuku Thwala (Co-ordinator for the Africa Chapter):

The Department of Construction Management and Quantity Surveying had appointed John Curtin Distinguished Professor Peter ED Love and Professor Nicholas Chileshe as Visiting Professors as from the 1st of September 2011 for period of three (3) years. The department is in a drive to increase both its research output and post graduate students. The appointment of the two visiting professors will have a positive impact in realising the department dreams. For more information with regard to the visiting professors I can be contacted at: didibhukut@uj.ac.za

Professor Nicholas Chileshe Summary CV
Professor Nicholas Chileshe has been involved as a member of various international scientific and technical committees, over the course of the last 10 years. He has also established a reputation within the Total Quality Management as one of the leading empirical researchers in the subject area. What is particularly significant about his contribution is the way in which it has helped to redefine the theoretical breadth and direction of the academic discipline, with particular emphasis on the Small and Medium Sized Organisations within the Construction Industry. In this sense, his contribution cuts across the full range of academic activity associated with scholarship, research and professional practice that are ultimately underpinned by an extensive, growing programme of peer reviewed and educational related empirical research. He has numerous publications, both in Conferences and Peer Reviewed Journals in the fields of Construction and Project Management. Professor Chileshe’s research at MSc and PhD was in the area of Construction Management. I feel this would certainly be of value to the department, in relation to his contribution through the supervision of the Masters and Higher Degrees by Research (HDR) students.
