Engineering and the Built Environment is a cornerstone of modern society and has given us fantastic technological advancements in diverse areas such as transportation, telecommunication, medicine and energy. This is an area where Science is applied for the advancement of society.

The Faculty plays an active part in the developmental agenda of the South African economy, in particular, and Africa, in general. It is strategically located in the Province of Gauteng which has a size of the economy which is the third largest in Africa, and which is bigger than that of Egypt.
