UJ is the undisputed leader in accounting education in South Africa. The Department of Accountancy has for many years been the biggest residential provider of Chartered Accountants in South Africa. UJ’s contribution to the transformation of the accountancy profession in South Africa is unmatched by any other university. Not only is UJ currently the biggest residential provider of African Black Chartered Accountants, but the University is also involved in capacity building at previous disadvantaged universities. The Department also has relationships with professional bodies and universities in Southern Africa, all of which the objective is to assist with the development of accounting education in Africa.

The Department has a distinctive focus on the training of prospective chartered accountants.
The Departments also offers a wide range of masters- and doctoral qualifications. Course work master degrees can be completed in the fields of International Accounting, Computer Auditing and South African- and International Taxation.
Tuition is offered in both Afrikaans and English and takes place on the Aucklandpark Kingsway campus of the University.
