Biographical
Letitia completed her Masters degree in Sociology cum laude in 2010 and her MA mini-dissertation was titled: ‘Lesbian Identities in South Africa: Black and White Experiences in Johannesburg.’ Over her academic career she has been honoured with numerous awards including the prize for Best Honours research project at the UJ Department of Sociology (2005); the Anton van Wyk bursary for most outstanding Sociology Honours student at the UJ Department of Sociology for the same year, and the prize for the best MA essay (2006) and dissertation (2010) at the UJ Department of Sociology. She was also awarded the first prize for best student essay at the South African Sociological Association’s annual conference in 2008, judged by esteemed sociologist Prof. Ari Sitas. Letitia is the recipient of the Vrije University-NRF Desmond Tutu doctoral scholarship and is currently registered as a PhD student at Vrije University, Amsterdam. Her PhD thesis topic is on the construction of (hetero)sexuality among young people living in Johannesburg.
