The primary purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifying students with research skills; theoretical and intellectual knowledge, critical reasoning abilities, problem-solving skills, an understanding of the normative dimensions of politics and economics, including respect for human rights, and open and accountable government, defensible security and economic policies; and normative limits on the exercise of power and authority in political economic orders.

The selection of all students is based on symbols attained in the final matriculation

examination. Apart from matriculation exemption, a minimum M score of 10 points is a prerequisite (there are exceptions to this general rule – refer to the specific programme regulation where applicable).
