National Diploma Civil Engineering


*Completion of an Engineering Science may lead to registration as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), depending on appropriate experience. Engineering Science programmes are offered in English.

 *Because of the limited number of places, fulfilling all the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the programme.

 

A learner achieving this qualification will be competent to apply theoretical knowledge, practical experience and skills in Civil Engineering as a civil engineering technician, who is part of the engineering team, by applying proven techniques to engineering activity, within standards and codes under remote supervision, and under close supervision if operating outside standards and codes.

Exit level outcomes:

The candidate must have the capability to plan Civil engineering systems in accordance with the relevant codes of practice under remote supervision, and under close supervision if operating outside standards and codes.

The candidate must have the capability to design Civil Engineering systems in accordance with the relevant codes of practice, under remote supervision, and under close supervision if operating outside standards and codes

The candidate must have the ability to prepare and administer the documentation for civil Engineering systems in accordance with the relevant codes of practice under remote supervision, and under close supervision if operating outside standards and codes

 The candidate must have the ability to build and maintain Civil Engineering systems under supervision.

  


A Senior Certificate
or an equivalent qualification at an equivalent standard..

N4 Certificate with a minimum pass of 70% in Mathematics and Engineering Science, and a pass in 2 languages,

N5 Certificate with a minimum of 60% in Mathematics and Engineering Science,

Students who have passed suitable access programmes may be exempted from the minimum requirements.
