DFL Lover + Another Poetry Challenge 2011

The Institutional office for HIV and AIDS, together with Drama for Life (WITS-based NGO), are launching an exciting and innovative performance poetry project called “ Lover + Another Poetry Challenge, which aims at empowering university students, youth and the wider community to confront their realities pertaining specifically to multiple sexual relationships and HIV and AIDS. This is a project that allows the youth to talk about sex, relationships and HIV and AIDS in a space designed to fit their socio-cultural contexts. Through the spoken-word culture, the youth is able to directly address the risks and cultural factors affecting their sexual behaviour, values and attitudes towards sex, relationships and HIV and AIDS.

There will be a series of audition slams and workshops at UJ, UCT, UKZN and around Johannesburg, whereby only 9 poets will be chosen to take part in the regional finals. The top three poets from each city will then compete in the National Grand Finale in Johannesburg on 2nd September 2011 as part of the Drama for Life festival.

This event will include media, musicians, poets and the Gauteng audience. It will also be judged by high profile artists, writers and poets.

If you are an aspiring poet, submit your poetry with the attached application form to an IOHA office on your campus.

See you at the slam sessions!
