IZWI-WORD-MOLOMATSEBE is the newsletter of the Language Unit of the University of Johannesburg. The underlying function and aim of our publication is snugly underpinned in its very title: The Word Becomes the Newsbearer. This title exemplifies how our official UJ languages can work together in a creative and yet effective manner – IsiZulu (IZWI), Afrikaans (WORD) and Sesotho sa Leboa (MOLOMATSEBE). It is an endeavour by the Unit to keep the whole University community abreast of current affairs in matters of language and education, whilst performing our primary function: implementing our quadrilingual Language Policy.
The mandate of IZWI-WORD-MOLOMATSEBE is pursuant to the implementation of the University’s quadrilingual Language Policy. One way of achieving this is by providing regular, consistent and accurate information on matters relating to language, in all four of the University’s official languages. This can be done in a number of ways to market, advertise and commercialise the Language Unit and the services the Unit offers. This publication will not only contribute to the University’s strategic goals, but will also encourage and create a general cultural transformation of the entire University.

IZWI-WORD-MOLOMATSEBE is die nuusbrief van die Taaleenheid van die Universiteit van Johannesburg. Die onderliggende funksie en oogmerk van ons publikasie word in die titel: DIE WOORD WORD DIE NUUSDRAER vervat. Hierdie titel illustreer hoe ons amptelike UJ-tale op ’n kreatiewe en doeltreffende manier saam kan werk - IsiZulu (IZWI), Afrikaans (WORD) en Sesotho sa Leboa (MOLOMATSEBE). Dit is ’n poging deur die Eenheid om die hele universiteitsgemeenskap op hoogte van die huidige kwessies in taal en onderwys te hou; terwyl ons ons primêre funksie verrig: om ons viertalige taalbeleid te implementeer.
Die mandaat van die IZWI-WORD-MOLOMATSEBE is ooreenkomstig die implementering van die Universiteit se viertalige Taalbeleid. Een van die aspekte om hieraan uitvoering te gee, is om gereelde, konsekwente en akkurate inligting oor taalverwante sake te gee. Dit kan op ’n hele aantal maniere gedoen word om die Taaleenheid en die dienste wat die Eenheid aanbied, te bemark, adverteer en kommersialiseer. Hierdie publikasie sal nie net tot die Universiteit se strategiese doelwitte bydra nie, maar ’n algemene kulturele transformasie van die hele Universiteit aanmoedig en skep.
